Jvion Predicts Patients at Risk of C Difficile Infection to Reduce Risk & Save Lives
Jvion, the leader in clinical predictive algorithms, announced the development of a Clostridium Difficile (C Diff) use case to help clinicians reduce the risk of deadly infections inside & outside the hospital
Atlanta, GA – March 06, 2015 – Jvion, the Atlanta-based leader in clinical predictive algorithms, announced the release of a Clostridium Difficile (C Diff) predictive use case for inpatient and outpatient providers. The C Diff use case is the latest in a broad compliment of predictive capabilities that span hospital acquired infections, chronic conditions, and individual illnesses. Using the firm’s RevEgis patient phenotype platform, the C Diff solution flags at risk individuals to help support clinician decision-making and reduce the likelihood of the deadly infection. These predictions can be produced in both inpatient and outpatient settings and can be integrated directly into existing electronic health record management systems.
“C Diff is a serious and deadly problem,” said Todd Schlesinger, VP for Jvion. “With this use case, we’ve extended the award-winning predictive capabilities already delivered through RevEgis to address a very pressing and lethal challenge facing all healthcare settings.”
A new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that C Diff infected nearly half a million Americans. Of those infected, 15,000 died as a result of the bacteria. Anyone taking an antibiotic is at risk of developing a C Diff infection, but older adults over 65 are particularly susceptible. According to the study, people taking antibiotics are 7 to 10 times more likely to get C Diff while on their prescription and in the subsequent 30 days after treatment. The bacteria are spread through unclean surfaces and dirty hands. A recent Ohio-based study found that six out of every seven outpatient settings test positive for C Diff.
Todd went on the say that, “our goal is to help clinicians reduce the occurrence of C Diff infections while also lowering mortality rates attributed to the bacteria. We designed our solution so that it fits seamlessly into the clinical workflow and provides the additional insights that help support physicians and reduce the risk of C Diff incidences.”
RevEgis has won numerous awards including: designation as Gartner Cool Vendor for Healthcare Providers; the 2014 Intel Innovation Award; top honors from Fierce Health IT in the “Data Analytics” category, and as an overall award of “Best in Show: Fiercest Cost-Saving Solution.” These awards recognize RevEgis’s impact on the reduction of various diseases and health concerns.

CHIME, AMDIS Respond to MU Stage 2 Modification Rule
Joint Statement from CHIME and AMDIS in Response to Stage 2 Modification Rule
ANN AROBOR, MI, April 10, 2015 – This afternoon the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) proposed a regulation that would give providers the option of demonstrating Meaningful Use (MU) through a shortened reporting period in 2015.
CHIME and AMDIS applaud these modifications as they will help hundreds of thousands of providers meet Stage 2 requirements in an effective and safe manner in 2015. The ability for providers to demonstrate MU through a shortened reporting period will keep them engaged in the program and position our industry to continue the momentum towards the goals of enhanced care coordination and interoperability.
The adjustment to the patient access measure to “equal to or greater than one [percent]” down from five percent was a welcome adjustment from CMS.
We are disappointed, however, by a missed opportunity to remove the largest remaining barrier to long-term programmatic success: namely, the need to address the program’s “pass/fail” construct. Now that we are well into the penalty phase of the program, we do not believe providers who make good-faith efforts should be penalized for missing 1 percent on one threshold. Rather, policymakers should acknowledge providers who invest resources to become meaningful users, but fall short of perfection, by limiting penalties to those providers who clearly did not make the effort.

Zynx Health Showcases Newest Solutions Guiding Interdisciplinary Care Across the Continuum at HIMSS15
ZynxCarebook, Knowledge Analyzer Consensus Builder, & ZynxCare cancer care module debut in booth 2260
LOS ANGELES,CA – April 7, 2015 — A mobile care coordination platform for managing patient transitions that includes secure messaging, an evidence-based clinical content analysis tool, and interdisciplinary plans of care that offer comprehensive guidance for cancer patients are Zynx Health‘s™ newest solutions underlining its booth’s theme “Delivering Vital Care Guidance Across the Patient Care Journey” at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society’s Annual Conference & Exhibition (HIMSS15) April 12-16 in Chicago.
In booth 2260, Zynx Health will offer HIMSS attendees their first look at the company’s latest additions for driving enhanced healthcare delivery and outcomes across the care continuum. ZynxCarebook™, Knowledge Analyzer™ Consensus Builder and the ZynxCare® cancer care module significantly extend the company’s ability to impact interdisciplinary care across a broader range of patient needs and care settings.
“Care delivery must be transformed by moving away from the largely siloed, episodic and fragmented approach providers typically use to a coordinated, evidence-based, team-based approach that puts the patient at the center,” said Bertina Yen, M.D., M.P.H., executive vice president of the product group at Zynx Health. “At HIMSS15, we will unveil our broad vision of using evidence-based practice and content combined with a coordinated plan of care and mobile collaboration tools to improve the patient experience and outcomes end-to-end. We’ll further show how these solutions fit into the broader Hearst Health network strategy to guide the most important care moments by delivering vital information into the hands of everyone who touches a person’s health journey.”
ZynxCarebook dramatically improves care team collaboration
Enhanced secure messaging capabilities in the ZynxCarebook mobile care coordination solution extend beyond individual communications, empowering interdisciplinary care team members to initiate evidence-based workflows when transitioning patients from the hospital to other care settings. ZynxCarebook is accessible on Apple iOS and Android devices.“Though other technologies will allow you to do secure texting, for us that isn’t enough in what we want to accomplish in driving better care,” said Carlos Gracia, M.D., F.A.C.S., director of clinical informatics at ValleyCare Health System in Pleasanton, Calif. “ZynxCarebook enables the automation of multiple workflows, which empowers the individuals on our care teams to set critical tasks in motion with one touch on a mobile device. For instance, it can provide visibility across the care team and enable coordination of a series of tasks for a particular patient’s care, which makes our overall delivery even more efficient and effective.”
ZynxCarebook’s host of features improves collaboration and communication among clinicians within a single health facility as well as across multiple care institutions. Among these features is the ability to create cross-continuum, patient-centered care teams; develop virtual huddles to improve collaboration between providers in different care settings;and incorporate evidence-based intervention guidelines into the patient transition care process. Collaborating on and standardizing care helps enhance quality, allowing healthcare organizations to create safe and effective care transitions that improve patient outcomes, reduce readmissions and ensure consistent compliance.
Knowledge Analyzer promotes best evidence-based decisions
The sheer volume of clinical evidence has made it impossible for even the most dedicated clinician to keep current with the latest medical literature. According to MEDLINE®, the U.S. National Library of Medicine, between 2,000 and 4,000 citations have been added to its database each day since 2005.Zynx Health’s Knowledge Analyzer is a web-based tool designed to help organizations quickly realize the full value of their electronic health record by analyzing vast amounts of clinical content against the most current evidence-bringing added transparency to clinical practice. It will be shown in conjunction with Consensus Builder, the just-released addition to Knowledge Analyzer that helps clinicians quickly reach agreement on the best evidence-based practices to use for optimal patient care.
Consensus Builder provides clinicians with an online tool that aggregates all opinions and discussions related to the clinical content analysis in one location, making it easier for colleagues in different departments or geographic locations to view the entire conversation, offer suggestions, and ultimately vote on their preference.
ZynxCare cancer content module treats the whole patient
Although ample evidence-based content exists relating to the specifics of treating different types of cancer, finding information on how to care for the needs of patients with cancer in general can be far more challenging. Zynx Health’s new ZynxCaremodule offers an interdisciplinary approach to suggesting activities and treatments to address issues that result from cancer and cancer treatment, such as symptoms arising from radiation or chemotherapy treatments. Moreover, the module’s evidence-based recommendations assist patients with pain management, treatment-related problems (such as esophageal irritation and psychosocial issues) to help patients become more engaged in their own healthcare. Holistic and alternative medicine options (such as yoga) also are part of the recommendations. Providers can compare their current plans of care against this module, review which alternatives have proven effective for others, determine areas for improvement, and make adjustments accordingly.
Help support a safer patient care journey
Participate in a three-minute tour at booth 2260 to see how patients experience the benefits of Hearst Health solutions across their health journey. Hearst Health will donate $25 per participant to theNational Patient Safety Foundation(NPSF) in support of the nonprofit organization’s critical mission and patient safety awareness work.Tweet this: .@ZynxHealth showcases newest solutions for guiding care along patient health journey at #HIMSS15 | @theNPSF http://bit.ly/1GgyZzq

Jvion Releases Findings from Latest Predictive Analytics in Healthcare Survey
Jvion’s latest predictive analytics in healthcare survey finds that advanced predictive modeling solutions are taking a strong foothold in the industry
Atlanta, GA – March 24, 2015 — In early March 2015, Jvion launched an initiative aimed at understanding the proliferation of advanced predictive modeling solutions within hospitals. For this study, advanced predictive modeling was defined as the application of machine learning algorithms to find patterns within data to predict patient-level risk. These kinds of solutions are gaining traction and market eminence as providers search for analytic capabilities that will help them prevent patient illness, avoid penalties, and reduce the cost of care.
Highlights from the study:
- 15% of providers are using some kind of predictive modeling
- 92% of those who have predictive solutions in place are using the outputs to predict patient risk or illness
- The illnesses and conditions most often targeted include: readmissions, patient deterioration, sepsis, and general patient

CHIME, AMDIS File Joint Comments on ONC’s Interoperability Roadmap
Joint Statement from CHIME and AMDIS in Response to ONC’s Interoperability Roadmap
ANN AROBOR, MI, April 3, 2015 – CHIME and AMDIS commend the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT for their efforts to detail a national strategy to improve the interoperability of health information technology. While we have some pointed criticisms, the amount of work needed to produce this first draft cannot be ignored. Specifically, we applaud ONC for creating heightened visibility toward building an interoperable health IT environment and underscoring the importance of clear, enforceable standards. For too long our fractured industry has developed tools based on a moving target of immature and inconsistently implemented standards.
We hope that ONC takes seriously the need to prioritize action items which can build on progress made to date. In our view, interoperability in the service of high quality, safe patient care should remain the principal focus of the near-term. Specifically, patient identification is paramount if we are to make any progress toward an interoperable Learning Health System. A national approach to patient identification is prerequisite for interoperability and the lack of a standard patient identifier only serves to aggravate our industry’s technical challenges. Without a standard patient identifier, the creation of a longitudinal care record, composed of data created through disparate systems, geographies and chronology is simply not feasible.
