Cardiopulmonary Corp. to Host Focus Group at CHIME15 Fall CIO Forum
CEO Janet Dillione will gauge health IT leaders on emerging trends for improved patient care
MILFORD, CT – October 6, 2015 –- Cardiopulmonary Corp (Bernoulli), a recognized leader in real-time connected healthcare, will conduct a focus group session during the upcoming CHIME15 Fall CIO Forum on Friday, October 16. The conference, which brings together health IT executives and chief information officers, is hosted by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) and will take place in Orlando, Fla., from October 14-17.
The focus group, entitled Using Emerging HIT to Increase Patient Safety and Improve Outcomes – Are We There Yet? will be led by Cardiopulmonary Corp. CEO Janet Dillione and examine how the market is shifting beyond electronic health record adoption and Meaningful Use checklists to deliver long-term success. Emerging applications such as alarm management, clinical surveillance monitoring, telemedicine, real-time predictive analytics, and evidence-based medicine support tools show great promise to improve care and reduce costs.
This session will bring together CIOs and other health IT executives to explore where these innovative trends fit in their crowded list of priorities. Is Meaningful Use and digital documentation of care still the primary focus? Or is the desire to demonstrate value-based care moving to the forefront? The focus group will also share actual results from early adopters of these applications, best practices for improving patient satisfaction and ways to leverage these trends to drive efficiency in clinical workflow.
“Clinical surveillance, virtual ICUs, alarm management and predictive analytics are just a few of the new applications shifting today’s healthcare marketplace, and many CIOs are wondering if and how their organizations could benefit,” said Ms. Dillione. “This unique setting allows us to engage with IT leaders on the frontlines, hear how they are approaching and adapting to healthcare’s rapidly changing landscape, and understand the real costs and considerations they face in finding a solution to their institution’s unique challenges.”

Black Book Announces 2015 Healthcare Financial Solutions Top Honors
Hospital viability is now vulnerably reliant on the success of a single organizational venture: financial system transformation. As the healthcare delivery industry deals with ICD-10, EHR issues, physician alignment, population health, interoperability, value-based reimbursement reforms, & decision support, CFOs embark on the major restructuring of hospital technology priorities for survival.
TAMPA, FL – October 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Black Book™ surveyed 1,191 hospital Chief Financial Officers, Vice Presidents of Finance, Controllers and Directors, to determine the top performing vendors among in-demand financial software, systems and outsourcing services, and assess the gaps and urgencies of hospital financial administration. The highest ranked vendors in customer satisfaction and client experience are announced in twenty-four financial solution functionalities and systems.

Additionally, 2,250 respective hospital CFOs, CIOs, business office managers, tech and financial staffers contributed their perceptions on Financial Systems Software and Services Solutions to Black Book™ between April and September 2015. Additionally the business managers of 607 outpatient, alternative care, and physician practices owned by hospital systems also submitted ballots and evaluated separately. 528 hospital and inpatient organizations were represented in the survey in total.
“Most hospital CFOs have no choice but to leverage next generation financial system solutions including software and outsourced services in order to keep their organizations solvent. The reimbursement challenges ahead to get paid may require several new applications. The frank reality is that outdated, understaffed and failing current solutions could quickly close a marginally performing hospital for good,” said Doug Brown, Managing Partner of Black Book Market Research.
88% of chief financial officers with negative 2014 operating margins report slow or no progress towards orchestrating a technology infrastructure to support value-based models.
“Given the complexities of each individual hospital, implementing the right software and outsourcing solutions in delicate sequence is crucial as to not create an even more adverse situation through the transition,” said Brown. “Trends in Medicare reimbursement, declining inpatient volumes, rising expenses and bad debt have most hospitals across the country struggling to avoid a financial stability crisis.”
70% of struggling hospitals are putting population health, analytics, physician practice acquisitions and recruitment, and patient engagement on the back burner, an improvement from 84% in 2014.
In contrast, 89% of CFOs hospitals performing at margins supporting long term viability (over 3%) report successful revenue cycle management transformations initiated, with 2016 capital expenditures planned for upgraded tools such as dashboards, analytics and business intelligence, population health, physician portals, patient engagement solutions and continued acquisitions.
Black Book™ also announced the top performing financial software and outsourced services vendors as ranked by customer satisfaction on eighteen client experience based key performance indicators in thirty-four categories of financial services and technology solutions.
“With so many organizations facing operating margins below the minimal thresholds for long-term financial stability and sustainability, boards and CEO’s are moving financial support solutions and outsourcing initiatives to the top of their 2016 capital expenditure priorities,” said Brown.

Healthcare IT Leaders Taking Steps to Address Cybersecurity Risks
ANN ARBOR, MI, October 5, 2015 – As healthcare becomes increasingly digitized, providers find themselves at growing risk of a cyber attack. These attacks not only pose a threat to personal identity, but also patient safety given the growing number of internet-enabled devices.
College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) members take their role of safeguarding their intuitions from nefarious actors very seriously. Hospital CIOs continue to ramp up such security measures as single sign-on, identity management and data loss prevention. According to the 2015 Healthcare’s Most Wired™ Survey, 94 percent of Most Wired hospitals have privacy audit systems in place and 79 percent conduct cybersecurity tabletop exercises.
As part of National Health IT Week, CHIME, along with HIMSS and the Association for Executives in Health Information Security (AEHIS), will hold a briefing Tuesday, Oct. 6, “Cybersecurity in Healthcare: The Growing Challenge of Securing Patient Data.” Leaders from across the industry will highlight efforts being taken to protect patient data.
With healthcare now a prime target, it is imperative that industry leaders and government officials work in tandem to minimize the risk of a cyberattack, something that President Obama acknowledging when he designated October National Cyber Security Awareness Month. In comments last year on the federal government’s Cybersecurity Framework, which applied to multiple critical industries, CHIME pointed out that healthcare has some distinctive characteristics. These include healthcare’s regulatory environment; the various settings from which care is delivered; the varied resources of small, rural and critical access hospitals; the need to identify financial incentives for investment; and the need to craft policies that do not inhibit health information exchange and mobile health. As a result, CHIME believes that the federal government should work with healthcare stakeholders to develop industry-specific standards for protecting health information from cyber criminals.
“Both Congress and regulatory agencies need to work with the industry to advance better information sharing,” said Charles Christian, FCHIME, LCHIME, CHCIO, chair of the CHIME Board of Trustees. “We also encourage Congress to pursue legislation that harmonizes the patchwork of regulations governing privacy, security and risk management.”
Tuesday’s briefing will be in 562 Dirksen Senate Office Building, 12:00-1:30 pm. Click here to RSVP.

Intelerad Releases Latest Version of their Cross-Enterprise Workflow Solution
InteleOne XE provides an alternative to replacing key systems while enhancing collaboration, performance & quality across multi-site health organizations
DENVER, CO & MONTREAL, CA – September 30, 2015 — Intelerad Medical Systems™, a leader in medical imaging solutions, today announced the release of InteleOne XE, the latest version of their cross-enterprise workflow and universal image access solution.
“InteleOne XE represents the culmination of eight years’ work developing and deploying cross-enterprise workflow solutions to a wide range of customers,” said Randall Oka, President, Intelerad. “This includes large hospitals, reading groups and teleradiology organizations across North America, Oceania and the United Kingdom.”
A rapidly-deployed solution, InteleOne XE provides an alternative to replacing critical and costly systems by seamlessly linking clinicians to data stored in existing HIS, RIS, EMR, PACS, and VNA systems. This enables the enterprise to:
- Gain the benefits of a cross-enterprise system without having to endure a PACS replacement or deploy a VNA.
- Unify multiple sites while maximizing use of existing infrastructure and avoiding data migrations at the same time.
- Balance workloads across the enterprise and improve subspecialist utilization.
- Enhance collaborative care by connecting clinicians across multiple sites and health providers.
- Increase efficiency, eliminate duplicate imaging and improve clinical outcomes by automatically retrieving all patient data located across the imaging ecosystem.
In addition, InteleOne XE provides a great deal of flexibility by allowing them to easily add or remove systems from the imaging ecosystem. This is particularly valuable during a merger or acquisition as sites can be easily added or removed from the enterprise.
For clinical staff, the solution’s ability to unify multiple sites greatly enhances performance and quality across the enterprise. This is accomplished by using Intelerad’s Assignment Engine to balance workloads across the enterprise and enhance subspecialist utilization; enhancing collaboration by connecting clinicians across multiple sites; avoiding duplicate scans by providing access to all patient data across the imaging ecosystem; and enabling radiologists to read their entire caseload from a single, standards-based user interface.
“We recognize that the medical imaging industry is currently in a state of flux. For some, it’s not an ideal time to invest in new medical imaging systems, while others are looking to work with more flexible vendors,” said Oka. “With InteleOne XE, our goal is to work with health enterprises to advance the capabilities of their imaging ecosystem without having to replace its existing pieces.”
Health organizations looking to receive a demo of InteleOne XE at RSNA 2015, can book them directly with Intelerad at www.intelerad.com/inteleone-xe.
