Sunquest Information Systems Announces Winners of the Client Innovation Awards
Award recognizes innovative uses of laboratory information systems
TUCSON, AZ – February 3, 2016 – Sunquest Information Systems Inc. today announced three winners for the company’s annual Sunquest Client Innovation Awards, a recognition given to Sunquest clients who took an innovative approach to improving laboratory operations and patient care through Sunquest solutions.
Winners were selected by Sunquest and SUG Inc., the Sunquest user group organization, from applications submitted from the Sunquest client base of more than 1,700 laboratories. This year’s selected organizations include:
- University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) received the award for innovation in diagnostic communities. Leveraging Sunquest and existing technology, UPMC connected their hospital laboratories to their ambulatory locations, creating an interoperable infrastructure that enabled them to entirely eliminate paper processes. With this new solution they implemented electronic lab orders and automated specimen collection label printing, while integrating clinical test results with physician and hospital EMRs and improving turnaround time of results to patients.
- BSA Health Systems is recognized for innovation in public health management and keeping the community happy and healthy. Several times a year, BSA Health Systems hosts public health fairs, providing free laboratory tests to improve population health. In spite of the goodwill nature of the health fairs, they created a considerable strain on staff and resulted in laboratory delays. With Sunquest specimen tracking and collection solutions, BSA improved results turnaround time by up to 48 hours.
- Carolinas HealthCare demonstrated innovation in transfusion management for system-wide transformation, improving process inefficiencies and reporting errors related to blood transfusions. By implementing Sunquest’s bedside solution across 12 hospitals, four rehab facilities and more than 8,000 users, Carolinas HealthCare eliminated documentation errors and improved the safety of blood transfusions across their institution, ultimately enabling them to achieve HIMSS Stage 7 certification at two facilities.
“We are excited to recognize and promote this year’s winners,” said Corinne Tso, vice president of marketing for Sunquest. “Each organization is a valued and integral partner to Sunquest and to the larger Sunquest client community.”

CynergisTek CEO Selected to Lead Two Presentations at HIMSS16 on Cybersecurity in Healthcare
Leading Healthcare IT Security Expert, Mac McMillan, & CynergisTek Clients to Share Strategies for Protecting Patient Data at Conference
AUSTIN, TX – February 2, 2016 (HIMSS Booth #131) — CynergisTek™, an authority in health information security, privacy and compliance, today announced that its CEO, Mac McMillan, was selected to lead two sessions at the 2016 Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Annual Conference and Exhibition. In the session titled, “Compliance Does Not Equal Security,” McMillan and CynergisTek client, Jay Adams, the Director of Information Security at Tallahassee Memorial, will co-present on ensuring the security of medical records. McMillan will also co-present a session titled, “Best Practices for Protecting Against Cyber Attacks,” with Chuck Kesler, CISO of Duke Medicine.
During the “Compliance Does Not Equal Security” presentation, McMillan and Adams will help healthcare organizations identify the risks of focusing solely on compliance, and determine the technologies that are critical to building a secure enterprise. The presentation will also discuss why people—not just technology—are key to successfully achieving security. This session will take place on March 1st at 4:00 p.m. PST in the Sands Expo Convention Center, Palazzo E.
In the session “Best Practices for Protecting Against Cyber Attacks,” McMillan and Kesler will discuss today’s cybersecurity landscape in healthcare, sharing examples from provider organizations that have benefitted from modernizing security practices. This presentation will highlight emerging trends in phishing, and provide best practices for creating enterprise-wide cybersecurity awareness. This session will take place on March 3rd at 11:30 a.m. PST in the Sands Expo Convention Center’s Rock of Ages Theater.
“Staying abreast of the ever-changing cycle of increasing threats and solutions can be an overwhelming challenge for provider organizations,” said McMillan. “Simply maintaining a culture of compliance is not a sufficient way to combat today’s security issues. It is becoming increasingly vital to take a structured and informed approach to updating and maintaining security procedures. I’m looking forward to collaborating with CIOs during these sessions at HIMSS to share best practices for protecting health data, and ultimately, protecting patients.”
CynergisTek will also be exhibiting at HIMSS this year. Booth visitors will have the opportunity to play an educational phishing game to test their ability to identify a well-crafted phish email. CynergisTek will also feature educational presentations about how to identify phishing and social engineering scams in its booth. Visitors will also have an opportunity to enter a drawing for an Apple Watch.
To learn more about CynergisTek, stop by booth #131 at HIMSS16 from February 29 – March 4 in Las Vegas, or visit cynergistek.com/himss16-annual-conference-exhibition. To schedule a meeting with McMillan, please contact Taylor VerMeer at [email protected].

“Imprivata OneSign Single Sign-On has been an easy win for the clinicians. The product is working great for us. We use it to access all of our systems, and we actually removed all of the desktop computers for the most part from our environment, and by using mobile devices, the clinicians can have the product follow them wherever they go.”
“With patient data breaches in the headlines every month, the need for security in healthcare is at an all-time high and Imprivata remains dedicated to helping transform the way the industry uses technology to deliver care securely,” said Chris Shaw, Senior VP, GM, Imprivata OneSign Products Group. “At such a significant time in our industry, we are thrilled that our customers and KLAS have validated not only our commitment to providing the highest standard of care, but also our commitment to providing the highest level of customer service and satisfaction.”

Imprivata Cortext Named Category Leader for Secure Messaging in the 2015/2016 Best in KLAS: Software & Services Report
Customers rank Imprivata Cortext as the clear leader for secure messaging solutions in healthcare, further validating Imprivata’s leadership in Healthcare IT Security
LEXINGTON, MA – February 2, 2016 — Imprivata® (NYSE: IMPR), the healthcare IT security company, today announced that KLAS, the healthcare industry’s leading independent research firm, has named Imprivata Cortext® Category Leader for Secure Messaging in its report, “2015/2016 Best in KLAS Awards: Software and Services.” Imprivata Cortext achieved an overall performance score of 91 out of 100 in Secure Messaging, one of three new software segments made eligible to receive Category Leader awards this year.
“Secure messaging is at the top of every healthcare CIO’s list and the Category Leader distinction is validation that Cortext is the market leader and preferred solution for secure messaging,” said Ed Gaudet, General Manager of the Imprivata Cortext Products Group. “With a 99 percent customer retention rate, Imprivata is manically focused on providing a signature customer experience and we’re honored to receive this independent validation from our customers and KLAS.”
“Imprivata Cortext’s #1 rating for Secure Messaging in the 2015/2016 Best in KLAS report is well deserved,” said Joel Vengco, VP & CIO, Baystate Health. “Secure clinical communication across our health system, ACO, and region is critical to striking that balance between clinical efficiency and safe, high quality, available care for our patients. Providing doctors, nurses, and other clinicians with a HIPAA-compliant method of receiving patient admission alerts, exchanging key clinical information, and sending texts and photos, even from their personal devices, has a substantial impact on care coordination, productivity, and satisfaction. That translates directly to better patient care.”
On the KLAS website, IT executives reported seeing many doctors in their facility texting patient health information due to the inefficiency of pagers, regardless of strict policies in place prohibiting the practice. Knowing that they have a responsibility to provide the technology necessary in the hospital environment, these executives found Imprivata Cortext to be one of few decisions that clinicians and the IT department could easily agree upon. According to the commentary, Imprivata Cortext customers said:
“Everyone uses Cortext. I can’t name a day when I don’t use it. Every time we introduce a new product into our environment, people are careful and critical, but people love Cortext.”
“Cortext is one of the best products we have had, and Imprivata has been one of the best vendors to work with. Their application is very easy to use and learn because it is extremely user friendly.”
Imprivata Cortext enables care coordination and patient engagement across the care continuum. The secure messaging solution recently achieved SOC 2 Type 1 certification, which is globally recognized as one of the strictest audit standards for service providers.
Imprivata Cortext allows organizations to transform desktop communications with a native, unique desktop experience by leveraging integration with the single sign-on Category Leader, Imprivata OneSign®. With Cortext and OneSign, organizations can instantly enable organization-wide communication for all clinical staff.

Vital Launches Game-Changing VNA on Demand Imaging Informatics Solution
Non Disruptive, Accountable Care Ready, Interoperability Platform
MINNEAPOLIS, MN – February 2, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Vital Images, Inc., (Vital), a Minneapolis-based advanced medical imaging and informatics company, launched “VNA on demand” to the global marketplace. The company’s VNA on demand solution will be one of several solutions featured at HIMSS (booth 732), February 29 – March 4, 2016 in Las Vegas, NV. While Vital continues to lead the world in advanced visualization and personalized medicine algorithms, 2016 heralds an increased focus on enterprise informatics. Evidence of this strategy will become evident over the coming weeks in a number of future solution announcements, related to leading the world in unique interoperability platforms. Vital is committed to bringing the vision and strategy behind advanced algorithm ingenuity into informatics, targeting informatics, accountable care, collaborative care, integrating multiple EMRs, HIE, VNA, PACS, ECM and more. VNA on demand sets forth the first example of next generation vendor neutral platforms, based on lessons learned in first generation platforms. This next generation platform, VNA on demand, allows chief information officers and their associated technology teams to deploy VNA in their timeframe and on their terms. The solution allows the customer to store only desired images and the customer has control of the entire situation without enormous impost of their resources and infrastructure. This game-changing concept provides many different benefits, such as immediate relief for customers with image storage issues and others interested in VNA who do not have resources to deploy immediately.
“We are excited to launch VNA on demand to the global marketplace. Based on direct customer feedback, this new product development is in lockstep with our customer-centered product requirements ethos. VNA on demand provides an immediate non disruptive solution, leveraging existing infrastructure, truly changing the face of the VNA marketplace forever. From an enterprise informatics perspective at Vital, this is a necessary yet incremental step in our vision to provide unique solutions in enterprise interoperability, patient engagement, secure access to the patient’s complete health record and more which is in lockstep with the Accountable Care environment,” said President and CEO at Vital, Jim Litterer.
“As someone who was involved in shaping the creation of the first generation concept of VNA in 2004, I bring forth a succinctly unique perspective to this simple, yet elegant and powerful solution. Rather than another enterprise deployment on already resource limited healthcare providers, this solution provides an easy entry point into the continuum of VNA. VNA on demand provides the answer customers have been seeking in the marketplace for more than a decade. Simplicity is mandatory for technology providers, in a marketplace steeped in growing government regulations, pressure on shared saving programs, increased focus on chronic disease management, bundled payments, Accountable Care Organizations and the Patient Privacy Accountable Care Act (PPACA),” said Vital’s Vice President, Marketing, Dr. Paul A. Markham.
