New Cybersecurity Resource Lists Information-Sharing Organizations
10.03.2019
By Theresa Meadows, SVP & CIO of Cook Children’s Health Care System
In 2017, the Health Care Cybersecurity Task Force listed six high-level imperatives along with recommendations and action items to help harden cybersecurity across the healthcare industry. The task force, which I co-chaired along with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Chief Information Security Officer Emery Csulak, offered this as our sixth imperative: “improve information sharing of industry threats, risks, and mitigation.” We noted that the Cybersecurity Act of 2015 supported an information sharing partnership between the federal government and the private sector.
In September, the Healthcare and Public Health Sector Coordinating Council addressed that imperative with the release of the Health Industry Cybersecurity Matrix of Information Sharing Organizations (HIC-MISO). The HIC-MISO is a guide that identifies the most widely known information-sharing organizations and their key services. It is designed to help health providers and companies navigate the many different options. It includes a short list of steps an organization can take to incorporate information sharing into its cybersecurity practices.
The HIC-MISO is available here. This is the fourth resource the council has made available this year. The others are:
- Health Industry Cybersecurity Practices
- Medical Device and Health I.T. Joint Security Plan
- Health Industry Cybersecurity Workforce Development Guide
You can learn more about the Healthcare and Public Health Sector Coordinating Council and the Joint Cyber Security Working Group here. If you want to get involved in federal working groups or task forces, email CHIME’s policy team at [email protected].

TransformativeMed Partnership with Crossings Healthcare Solutions Will Enhance EHR Usability, Increase Physician Satisfaction
Software integration will help providers augment and extend EHR functionality, driving greater clinician satisfaction
SEATTLE, WA, Oct. 2, 2019 — TransformativeMed, the leader in transforming electronic health records (EHRs) with apps directly embedded within the EHR, announced today a strategic partnership with Crossings Healthcare Solutions that will address challenges with EHRs, increase physician satisfaction, and improve clinical efficiency. The companies’ solutions are highly complementary, as each delivers custom solutions that enhance Cerner’s EHR system to improve clinician satisfaction through better workflow, ease-of-use, efficiency and communication.
Numerous recent studies, surveys and news reports have chronicled the national epidemic of physician dissatisfaction with technology, attributing much of the problem to excessive administrative tasks, including the perception that EHRs are insufficiently clinician friendly. A joint paper issued by Harvard Global Health Institute, Massachusetts Medical Society and others found that improving physician satisfaction and giving them a sense of efficacy in their work hinges on improving workflows, managing alerts to eliminate those that are distracting and unhelpful, and alleviating burdensome documentation processes.
“Physician satisfaction and clinical efficacy are critically important, and technology must improve these,” said Rodrigo Martinez, MD, Chief Clinical Officer, TransformativeMed. “By combining TransformativeMed’s expertise in clinical communication and collaboration with Crossings Healthcare’s proficiency in clinical decision support, we will combine our technologies on the desktop and on mobile devices and embed them into the clinical workflows within the EHR. This creates an even better user experience for the clinician than using either product alone.”
The combined TransformativeMed-Crossings Healthcare Solutions tools will build on the companies’ synergies in clinical content, technical resources, sales distribution and an unwavering commitment to improving patient care. Both organizations’ solutions have a track record of improving physician and nursing productivity, efficiency and satisfaction, while simultaneously providing favorable return-on-investment for their clients.
“EHRs hold strong potential to improve care, but they must be designed with clinicians’ workflows in mind,” said Ori Lotan, MD, CMIO, Crossings Healthcare Solutions. “We are proud of our track record of implementing innovative solutions that have produced high provider adoption and satisfaction while reducing charting time and delivering significant ROI to their sponsoring organizations.”
The TransformativeMed-Crossings Healthcare solution is already proving beneficial to The George Washington University Hospital, one of its early adopters.
“Prior to this, I used a combination of methods to generate patient bills,” said Babak Sarani, MD, FACS, FCCM, Director, Center for Trauma and Critical Care and the George Washington Transfer Center. “This is faster, easier to use, and has a readily accessible platform that reminds me which patients I have and have not billed. This module saves me at least an hour a day, and the office staff is able to generate ad-hoc reports to monitor billing activity and ensure that all patient encounters are charged.”
About TransformativeMed
TransformativeMed dramatically improves the usability of Electronic Health Records (EHRs), with specialty-specific and disease-specific workflows, which are embedded within the EHR. The Core Work Manager and Core Diabetes App securely synchronize clinical workflow, tasks, alerts, notifications and messages to harmonize the care team and create seamless communication across clinicians, using any device, including mobile. With TransformativeMed, clinicians are happier and clinical work is streamlined, more efficient, less costly and safer. Learn more at TransformativeMed.com.About Crossings Healthcare Solutions

MEDITECH Announces Collaboration with Google Cloud to Bring EHRs to the Public Cloud
The contemporary Expanse platform will be one of the first EHRs available through Google Cloud Platform (GCP), delivering a new level of digital transformation to an increasingly diverse range of healthcare facilities.
October 2, 2019. MEDITECH, a leading Enterprise Health Record (EHR) vendor, is proud to announce that it is one of the first vendors to offer an EHR through Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This new collaboration solidifies MEDITECH’s commitment to securely delivering greater access to patient data, facilitating interoperability, and enhancing scalability.
“This is the future of healthcare,” says Howard Messing, CEO of MEDITECH. “We’ve been retooling MEDITECH for the new healthcare paradigm, reshaping our company to meet the needs of today’s market and today’s customers. It began with Expanse, one of the first web-based solutions, released as one of the first full-scale platforms of the post-Meaningful Use era. Now, this collaboration with Google Cloud and our commitment to the public cloud further expands the productivity and agility of our customers.”
GCP will provide additional options aligned with the MEDITECH as a Service (MaaS) subscription model, further advancing cost-effective, rapid, and easy implementation of cutting-edge EHR technologies. “Reducing infrastructure costs, while continually providing some of the most advanced technologies available, is appealing to healthcare organizations of all sizes and scopes,” says Messing.
Public cloud also plays a role in allowing facilities to expand security efforts and help combat ransomware attacks. “Whereas many of our customers today have finite resources dedicated to security, the public cloud can facilitate potentially hundreds of additional, deployable resources,” says Scott Radner, Vice President of Advanced Technology, MEDITECH.
The agreement with Google Cloud extends to application development as well. “Plans are underway to develop native cloud products as well as APIs to be used on these products,” says Michelle O’Connor, MEDITECH President and COO. “So the innovations will be extended to our on-premise customers as well.”
MEDITECH is particularly proud to be one of the first vendors offering its customers all of the power, prestige, and promise of GCP.
“At Google Cloud, we are focused on providing healthcare and life sciences organizations with innovative and scalable technology that can be used to generate novel insights, improve care delivery, and enable greater efficiencies in the healthcare system,” said Joe Corkery, MD, Head of Product, Healthcare and Life Sciences, Google Cloud. “We are proud to collaborate with MEDITECH, to help foster innovation within care systems and advancing data interoperability.”
