CHIME’s 2020 Board Chair Makes Digital Strategy, Cloud Migration and Telemedicine Top Priorities
ANN ARBOR, MI, Jan. 7, 2020 – As the 2020 chair of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) Board of Trustees, John Kravitz plans to focus on three platforms that he sees as critical for the 3.0 CIO: digital strategy, moving to cloud-hosted environments and telemedicine. Intertwined with in-depth education in these topics will be programming on leadership strategies to help senior healthcare executives transform their healthcare organizations.Kravitz, who is corporate CIO at Geisinger Health System, envisions forward-thinking presentations and use cases that detail what others have done and how they have progressed with digital strategies, cloud migrations and telemedicine. “How does IT help support moving the business forward as a strategic enabler?” he proposed as questions to be addressed. “Does a cloud migration strategy give organizations the ability to be agile, move forward faster and save costs? How does telemedicine support the digital strategy, the business strategy, and help the healthcare sector move toward a population health environment? What approaches can we share and teach others to take them down that journey?”CHIME will continue to offer peer-to-peer education featuring CHIME members and CHIME Foundation firm partners. CHIME is also expanding educational and professional development venues in 2020 to give healthcare IT executives more opportunities to build their knowledge, skills and networking. CHIME’s growing international presence allows for bi-directional education and exchanges of best practices, too, Kravitz noted. In addition, CHIME will look for ways to collaborate with others whose expertise aligns with the 3.0 initiative. As corporate CIO at Geisinger Health, Kravitz is responsible for all IT strategic planning, operational effectiveness and efficiencies. He also has global responsibility for Geisinger Health’s clinical enterprise, health plan, research and medical school. Prior to joining Geisinger Health in 2009, he served as vice president and CIO at the Good Shepherd Rehab Network in Allentown, Pa., where he provided strategic planning and managed application implementations and deployment of new IT. He earned an M.S. in Healthcare Administration and a B.S. in Computer Information Systems/Business Administration from King’s College.“John brings great perspective as a leader with vision and broad experience,” said CHIME President and CEO Russell Branzell. “He looks at innovation through the lens of patient care; it is not about the technology but what we can do with technology to improve health and care. As chair, he is dedicated to helping his colleagues be strategic and trusted leaders in their healthcare organizations.”Kravitz joined CHIME in 1999 and is a CHIME Certified Healthcare CIO (CHCIO). In addition to serving as the 2020 Board chair, he is a member of the Policy Steering Committee and the CHIME Opioid Task Force. His tenure as chair began on Jan. 1, 2020 and will run through Dec. 31, 2020.About CHIMEThe College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) is an executive organization dedicated to serving chief information officers (CIOs), chief medical information officers (CMIOs), chief nursing information officers (CNIOs), chief innovation officers (CIOs), chief digital officers (CDOs) and other senior healthcare IT leaders.
