Clearwater Provides Complimentary Teleworking Systems Discovery and Analysis to Help Healthcare Organizations Strengthen Remote Workforce Security
A Customizable Survey Tool and Related Consulting Services to Discover, Analyze, and Integrate Administrative Functions of New Applications, Systems, Services and Devices
NASHVILLE, TN (March 31, 2020) – To aid information security teams in managing the rapid transition to a remote workforce resulting from the COVID-19 outbreak, Clearwater is providing its customers and other healthcare providers with Teleworking Systems Security Insight. This complimentary offering includes a customizable survey tool and related consulting services to assist in discovering, analyzing, and integrating the administrative functions of new systems and services being used for telework within their organizations.
From new cloud-based applications and external email programs to new personal devices and data storage locations, a wide range of systems and services are now being used by the healthcare workforce. Many of these are being deployed in ways not contemplated before the emergence of COVID-19 prompted a massive shift to teleworking. In many cases, these new systems:
- Are not approved by the organization
- Create significant security risk
- Include free services that may violate organizational policy, federal regulations, and cause sensitive information disclosure
- Create new business workflows that are not known or administered by the organization
- Create unmanaged business risk from potential systems failure or system and information unavailability due to workforce member turnover or illness
Clearwater developed Teleworking Systems Security Insight to equip its healthcare customers with a tool they can rapidly deploy in their organizations to identify new applications, systems, services and devices being used by their workforce. Teleworking Systems Security Insight reports identify which of these systems and solutions warrant attention and may require mitigation of potential security concerns.
To minimize the burden on its customers, Clearwater will collect the data from pre-developed workforce member surveys that can be easily customized to align with the customer’s environment. Clearwater’s expert consultants will review the data, identify significant trends and risks, and deliver a report to the customer recommending applicable and appropriate security practices for the circumstances.
“The rapid sea change in how organizations are working may be leaving them vulnerable to unanticipated security threats,” said Jon Moore, Clearwater’s Chief Risk Officer and head of Consulting Services. “Through our Teleworking Systems Security Insight service, we provide information security teams that are overburdened right now with an efficient way to better understand their remote work environment and gauge the risks associated with it.”

Shelton, CT – April 1, 2020 – International medical imaging IT and cybersecurity company Sectra (STO: SECT B) has received a 510(k) clearance by the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA). The clearance applies for Sectra Digital Pathology Module, the key component of Sectra’s pathology solution, when used together with Leica Biosystems’ scanner AT2 DX. This enables US healthcare providers to use Sectra’s digital pathology solution for primary diagnostics. The solution makes it possible to move towards fully integrated diagnostics, which is especially important in complex cancer cases.
“I’m excited that with the FDA approval, we are now able to offer US healthcare providers a digital pathology offering with a proven track-record of use for full-scale primary diagnostics and large volumes,” says Mikael Anden, President, Sectra Inc. “Our solution makes it possible for pathologists across the country to continue their important work from home without the need for a microscope. We look forward to providing uninterrupted pathology reading in these challenging times. This approval is an exciting and important step forward for pathology and cancer care in the US.”
Sectra’s digital pathology solution is already used in the US for research and tumor boards and can now also be used in primary diagnostics. With digital images of tissue samples instead of physical glass slides, pathologists gain instant access to current and historical images and related data as well as to digital tools for reviewing the images. Digital access also facilitates efficient second opinions, remote reading, specialist consultations and makes integrated diagnostics possible.
The digital pathology solution is a component of Sectra’s enterprise imaging offering, of which all components are built on the same technical platform. This allows healthcare providers to use a single solution for their medical imaging needs across all specialties, enabling integrated diagnostics. A deeper cooperation and ability to access other departmental images and information contributes to improved efficiency and patient care. This is especially important for complex cases where both radiology and pathology play key roles. Instant access to digital pathology images, side by side with radiology or other images, enables more efficient discussions and the ability to give detailed descriptions of findings.
“Pathology is the next huge digitization of healthcare. The use of glass slides limits growth in today’s increasingly digital environment, especially in consolidated health care systems where potential synergies cannot be reached unless pathology is digitized. Our solution opens up new opportunities in the US where we can point to our successes in Europe in large production centers,” says Dr. Torbjörn Kronander, President and CEO of Sectra.
