Healthtech Leader 3.0: Uniting Digital Health Tech Leaders to Break Down Silos
Healthtech Leader 3.0: Uniting Digital Health Tech Leaders to Break Down Silos
Ann Arbor, MI, August 28, 2023—Healthtech Leader 3.0, a pivotal event at the forefront of digital health innovation, is set to unite digital health tech leaders in a collective effort to tackle the formidable challenges currently facing healthcare providers. The event, hosted by Cleveland Clinic on September 27-29, aims to unite digital health leaders specializing in applications, data and analytics, security, and technology to drive transformation.
“Healthtech Leader 3.0 was organized to harness the collective expertise and diverse perspectives of digital health tech leaders by creating an environment that inspires collaborative breakthroughs and transformative progress,” said Russ Branzell, President and Chief Executive Officer of CHIME (The College of Health Information Executives). He continued, “By dismantling silos through cross-functional collaboration, we are paving the way to help provider organizations move digital transformation forward. That’s why CHIME, AEHADA (The Association for Executives in Healthcare Applications, Data & Analytics), AEHIS (The Association for Executives in Healthcare Information Security), and AEHIT (The Association for Executives in Healthcare Information Technology), joined forces to launch this unparalleled new event to spark the unity this industry so desperately needs to successfully advance health and care.”
An Open, Industry-Wide Invitation to Digital Health Tech Leaders
Demonstrating its commitment to fostering unity and collaborative progress, Healthtech Leader 3.0 has made registration open to digital health leaders across the industry. Through event registration, attendees will receive a complementary 1-year membership to the professional organization they are eligible to join: AEHIS, AEHIT, or AEHADA. This offer ensures that any eligible digital health leader seeking solutions for their organization’s challenges has the opportunity to join their peers from other organizations to enhance and benefit from the discussions, education, and valuable exchange of knowledge and insights shared at Healthtech Leader 3.0.
“Our objective is to reshape the healthcare landscape by harnessing the collective insights and efforts of digital health leaders at the forefront of the IT disciplines critical to enabling the continuum of care,” stated David Finn. “The inclusive ethos of Healthtech Leader 3.0 mirrors our commitment to creating a platform where digital health leaders of diverse backgrounds can collectively steer transformative change.”
A Call for Unity in Digital Health: Bridging the Technical Divide
Amid escalating challenges posed by growing cybersecurity threats, evolving care models, staffing shortages, and budget constraints, the call for a unified approach to confronting today’s complex issues is long overdue for an industry urgently seeking real solutions.
“Healthcare is fragmented. The only way we’re going to see true digital transformation is to bring together applications, data and analytics, security, and infrastructure leaders,” emphasized David Finn, CHIME Vice President of AEHADA, AEHIS, and AEHIT. Mr. Finn added, “Healthtech Leader 3.0 provides that very platform. At the core of our vision is a holistic approach that integrates every facet of digital healthcare solutions to address all angles of the complex challenges providers today face. We organized this event to offer the best and brightest minds in digital health technology an arena to collaborate in person on addressing their organization’s specific issues and bring back actionable solutions that we believe are the key to ultimately enhancing patient outcomes, reducing costs, and elevating the patient experience.”
When seeking an ideal venue, the leaders of all participating organizations recognized the need for an environment that echoed their commitment to progress. The choice was unanimous—Cleveland Clinic—a national and global healthcare leader renowned for its pioneering approach to digital health technology. Cleveland Clinic agreed to not only host the event but also collaborate with CHIME, AEHADA, AEHIS, and AEHIT to develop and deliver the event programming, even volunteering members of its team to serve as session speakers alongside the event’s lineup of preeminent industry speakers.
“Cleveland Clinic’s decision to host Healthtech Leader 3.0 is rooted in our dedication to catalyzing meaningful change,” stated Kevin Duemling, Senior Director of Cybersecurity Technology Protection at the Cleveland Clinic. “We [Cleveland Clinic] see this as an opportunity to contribute to these transformative conversations, driven by our shared core values of patient care, research, and education.”
Empowering Real-Life Solutions: Collaboration Complemented by Actionable, Problem-Solving
Healthtech Leader 3.0 was designed to address the challenges and imperatives on the minds of digital applications, data & analytics, informatics, security, and technology digital health leaders. The event programming features expert-led mainstage and break-out presentations covering pressing topics such as Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, building collaborative teams, security threats, breaking down silos and other issues.

Care New England Taps Kyndryl to Help Improve Patient Care
Together, Kyndryl and AWS will support Care New England as it continues to scale and grow its high-quality clinical capabilities.
NEW YORK, NY (August 15, 2023) — Kyndryl (NYSE: KD), the world’s largest IT infrastructure services provider, and Care New England, a nonprofit healthcare system in Rhode Island, today announced a collaboration to help enable growth across the health system, by consolidating multiple electronic medical record (EMR) systems to one end-to-end system with Epic (a leading provider of EMRs). Kyndryl will lead the healthcare system’s transition to one single instance of Epic. The goal of this program is to improve productivity and enable more coordinated and efficient patient care.
“Last year, we pledged to stay independent as part of our broader goal to remain Rhode Island’s place for foundational and specialty care with hospitals such as Women & Infants, Kent and Butler,” said Michael Wagner, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer, Care New England. “Improving our technical posture is a key step to bringing us to a place of growth, and Kyndryl is the perfect partner to work with us on this journey.”
As part of this collaboration, Care New England will transition its IT and applications environment to Kyndryl – freeing up valuable time for its staff to focus on providing the highest quality patient care. Care New England will also leverage Kyndryl’s strategic partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to migrate critical workloads, including its EMR system, onto the AWS cloud.
This migration will reduce operational costs, while also providing Care New England with access to new cloud-enabled technologies like automation that help strengthen the health system’s data security posture and support adherence to regulatory compliance requirements.
These enhancements will transform how Care New England manages and harnesses its clinical and operational data to better inform clinicians and the health system’s leadership. The consolidation effort and cloud migration will also help drive an expansion in service capabilities across the healthcare system. As a result, patients will find it easier to access care and providers can better collaborate with other healthcare networks.
“Our teams have a deep understanding of Care New England’s biggest challenges and what’s required to overcome them,” said Amy Salcido, President, Kyndryl US. “Because at the end of the day, the goal isn’t to solve a technical issue. We’re striving to transform how healthcare is delivered, and IT is the enabler to get there.”
“At AWS, we are committed to helping healthcare organizations innovate and incorporate technology that will reduce administrative burdens and improve the caregiver and patient experience,” said Allyson Fryhoff, Managing Director, Nonprofits and Nonprofit Healthcare, AWS. “We’re thrilled to join forces with Kyndryl in supporting Care New England throughout their digital transformation journey.”
Importantly, many Care New England employees will join Kyndryl’s team and continue to provide technical services to Care New England. While Care New England is a leader in healthcare quality and health services, this move allows the healthcare system to focus on patient care and its academic mission, while also providing IT team members a vehicle to advance in their careers in a way that was not previously available within a healthcare system.
Kyndryl will also help Care New England redirect resources into higher yield investments by removing legacy systems, redundant applications and technical debt — all of which can hinder future growth and the deployment of new service capabilities.
Care New England will join the 500 global customers currently operational on Kyndryl Bridge and will leverage the expertise of Kyndryl Consult, Kyndryl Vital and Kyndryl’s Clinical Experience Team to identify new ways to improve the patient and caregiver experience.

Survey Finds 90 percent of Healthcare Organizations Adopting Digital Health, Despite Financial Pressures
While financial pressures were the leading barrier to adoption cited by nearly half, most stated they have implemented digital health
SEATTLE—August 7, 2023—Xealth, the leader in enabling digital health at scale, today announced recent survey findings that examine the digital health experiences and attitudes of healthcare executives. The online survey of College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) members was conducted between May 15 and June 20, 2023.
According to the survey[1], most (90.5%) executive respondents have adopted digital health even though nearly half (47.6%) cited financial pressures and staff resource constraints (19.1%) as barriers to adoption. Also, the vast majority (81%) have integrated digital health applications into their EHR workflow and about 1 in 5 (19.1%) stated they had achieved advanced EHR integration of digital health applications with defined goals and metrics.
Additional key findings include:
- 81% define digital health as downloadable apps and programs with a connected device, followed closely by patient education, pdfs and videos (not clinical references) (71.4%).
- Two thirds (66.7%) named remote patient monitoring (RPM) and downloadable apps and programs (no connected devices) as digital health.
- More than 3 in 4 (76.2%) respondents stated their health systems have experienced increased patient engagement due to increased digital health adoption. Nearly half (47.6%) of respondents noted clinician ease of use due to this increase.
- Respondents are seeing a better bottom line and reduced readmissions (14.3%) from increased digital health adoption.
- More payor or employer funded programs (81%), patient demand (71.4%), improved interoperability & ease of integration (66. 7%), clear CPT codes for digital interventions (42.9%) and more clinical evidence (33.3%) were top motivators in health systems expanding digital health.
- No respondents named C-level support or patient engagement as barriers to adoption.
“In an industry that is notoriously slow to change, digital health has been relatively fast at reaching a tipping point,” said Mike McSherry, CEO and co-founder of Xealth. “This research shows the opportunity with digital health. It is gratifying to see widespread C-level support and health systems beginning to tie bottom line growth and reduced readmissions to digital health. We expect that percentage to grow as digital programs mature and establish best practices.”

NASHVILLE, TN (August 15, 2023) – Inc. revealed today that EvidenceCare – the innovative, EHR-integrated clinical decision support software company – ranks No. 436 on the 2023 Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing private companies in America. The prestigious ranking provides a data-driven look at the most successful companies within the economy’s most dynamic segment—its independent, entrepreneurial businesses.
EvidenceCare secured a spot on the INC 5000 list for the second consecutive year (previously No. 1028) with its consistent, accelerated growth and clinched No. 36 in Health Services, No. 9 in Tennessee, and No. 8 in the Greater Nashville area.

Among this year’s top 500 companies, the average median three-year revenue growth rate ticked up to an astonishing 2,238 percent.
In honor of being in the Top 500, EvidenceCare will also be featured in the September issue of Inc. magazine, available on newsstands beginning Tuesday, August 23.
“Running a business has only gotten harder since the end of the pandemic,” says Inc. editor-in-chief Scott Omelianuk. “To make the Inc. 5000—with the fast growth that requires—is truly an accomplishment. Inc. is thrilled to honor the companies that are building our future.”

Utilizing Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service with its large-scale, generative AI models and other chat technology, Iris provides patients with quick access to information and easy completion of common tasks, improving patient access and self-service. Iris enables call deflection and reduces operational burden and costs for health systems. When necessary, Iris can seamlessly connect patients with a live agent chat for timely and accurate assistance.
Iris sets a new standard for conversational virtual assistants by surpassing current basic chatbots that utilize limited content, require extensive training, and lack an EHR-integrated, omnichannel experience. With its advanced AI capabilities and access to a vast range of published content, Iris can provide immediate responses to a wide range of patient queries, making it the most comprehensive solution available. By integrating voice, web chat, and SMS capabilities into a single omnichannel experience, healthcare providers can offer self-service options to patients for a variety of common activities, reducing the burden on staff and increasing patient acquisition. Iris is highly flexible and can be easily integrated with existing EHRs or deployed as a standalone solution, ensuring a seamless patient engagement experience.
“As a leader in patient engagement technology for over three decades, TeleVox has continuously strived to enhance the patient experience and care through innovation,” said Vik Krishnan, President of TeleVox. “Iris, a new generation of AI-enabled patient-provider communication, marks a significant milestone in the evolution of patient engagement technology and enables health systems to deliver the self-service experience that consumers expect today.”
Iris integrates a full range of communication technologies, including web chat, conversational SMS messaging, and automated telephone responses, providing patients with the flexibility to engage with healthcare providers on their own terms. Unlike other chatbot solutions that can leave patients feeling frustrated by dead-end conversations, Iris will seamlessly connect patients with a live representative should they require further assistance. Moreover, healthcare organizations can easily incorporate their website and other content into the automated system, providing patients with customized and easy-to-understand “FAQ” content in natural language. By leveraging Iris’s advanced AI and chat technologies, patients will receive real-time responses to their questions, reducing response times and increasing patient satisfaction.
“Healthcare providers face immense challenges in managing the patient care journey, from providing high-quality care to increasing visit volumes and revenue streams while simultaneously reducing staff workload,” said Kamal Anand, Chief Product Officer, TeleVox. “Iris, with its use of Azure OpenAI Service and chat technologies, is the solution that healthcare organizations need to meet these challenges.”
“Microsoft’s advancements in AI are grounded in our company’s mission to help every person and organization on the planet to achieve more,” said Brian Willson, Vice President, West & Midwest region, Microsoft. “TeleVox is embracing this mission by improving patient experiences and mitigating staff burnout in healthcare, using Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service to develop innovative solutions that can make a real difference in people’s lives.”
KLAS, a leading analyst in the patient engagement space, provided additional comments on the announcement. “Technology advances through AI and other tools have created opportunity to significantly improve patient engagement,” said Adam Cherrington, Vice President Digital Health at KLAS. “It’s critical that healthcare organizations identify and leverage platforms that significantly enhance the patient experience while addressing serious operational shortfalls.”

Ontario Hospitals leverage Novari-MEDITECH integration to improve workflows
August 2, 2023 | The Novari-MEDITECH integration has improved efficiencies and effectiveness of workflows for wait list management, care coordination, and referral management capabilities.
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and recent health human resource challenges, many healthcare organizations struggle to manage workloads and scheduling, including those associated with surgical and medical imaging backlogs. With support from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Ontario Health, health regions and hospitals have helped to address these challenges by enhancing the integration of their MEDITECH EHR with Novari Health’s technologies.
Integrating Novari Health’s technologies with MEDITECH has improved efficiencies and effectiveness of workflows for wait list management, care coordination, and referral management capabilities. These enhancements and capabilities also help ensure that individual patients receive the right care, at the right time, and in the right place.
Queensway Carleton Hospital (QCH) is the most recent site to go live with Novari’s Medical Imaging Requisition management™ technology. QCH and Novari broke new ground with this implementation, as it included both referrals from external community physician offices and internal physician orders. Orders entered by QCH physicians into MEDITECH’s CPOE flow directly into Novari MIRM allowing a single and seamless process for the department. The project involved tight integration with the hospital’s MEDITECH EHR and enhanced integration with the hospital’s PACS system, leveraging the DICOM standard.
“QCH’s reputation as a leader in digital health is well deserved. This project broke new ground with DICOM – PACS integration and integration with MEDITECH to support the hospital’s implementation of computerized physician order entry,” said John Sinclair, CPHIMS-CA, President, Novari Health.
Humber River Health recently implemented Novari’s surgical wait list management and eBooking technology with integration to MEDITECH Expanse. The Novari ATC™ software is being provided as software as a service to HRH and its surgical offices. HRH uses MEDITECH and Novari’s scheduling integration to enable efficient scheduling of surgical patients and coordination between the surgical offices and hospital perioperative staff. The Novari system provides surgeons and their office staff access to an integrated and standardized electronic wait list management system and the ability to electronically coordinate the scheduling of surgeries and procedures with the hospital.
As North America’s first fully digital hospital, Humber River Health has long leveraged technology to provide exceptional patient-centered care and outcomes.
“Humber River Health’s launch of Novari through the central wait list management funding supports our philosophy of digitizing the patient journey for improving access to care while establishing efficiencies for the care team to create a seamless patient record and now better management of our procedural services wait lists,” said Humber River Vice President Jhanvi Solanki. “We are grateful for the support provided to us by Ontario Health and Novari in launching this solution.”
Novari also offers a Cardiac Services Referral Management™ solution that integrates with MEDITECH. This technology provides customized workflows as well as real-time data on the volume of referrals and bottlenecks in the system. Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and Southlake Regional Health Centre are currently using this solution to support their cardiovascular programs.
“Southlake’s Regional Cardiac Program is a leader in innovation and embraces both clinical and administrative technologies to help us provide the best possible care to our patients,” said Southlake Regional Director Liz Lalingo. “Novari Health’s software helps our staff, nurses, and physicians streamline the referral process, and ensures we have the information we need to best support our patients.”
MEDITECH Director Patricia Pacewicz says that because MEDITECH’s EHR integrates with other technologies, customers can easily access solutions such as Novari’s, to extend their current capabilities.
“We encourage our customers to leverage the full potential of their EHRs, by integrating with complementary technologies from our partner vendors,” she said. “Novari Health’s solutions are great examples of tools that work seamlessly with MEDITECH systems and will help to elevate the care experience for both patients and providers.”

DrFirst Healthcare Innovations Collaborates with MEDITECH to Power E-Prescribing in Canada
Safer and More Efficient: E-Prescribing Comes to Canadian Hospitals with MEDITECH Expanse Electronic Health Record
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (August 9, 2023) DrFirst Healthcare Innovations announced today it is collaborating with MEDITECH to enable electronic prescribing by hospitals using the Expanse EHR in Canada. This integration supports MEDITECH’s plans with Canada Health Infoway to connect with its national e-prescribing service, PrescribeIT®.
E-prescribing has numerous benefits for physicians, pharmacies, and patients, including eliminating the need for faxing or calling-in prescriptions to pharmacies, avoiding transcription errors, reducing the potential for fraud, and saving time for patients who no longer need to drop off a written prescription at the pharmacy. DrFirst Healthcare Innovations is integrated with the MEDITECH Expanse EHR to provide the directory of community pharmacies and to meet the complex technical requirements for secure electronic prescribing through PrescribeIT®.
“E-prescribing is safer for patients and more efficient for prescribers and pharmacists,” said G. Cameron Deemer, CEO of DrFirst Healthcare Innovations. “We have a long history of working with MEDITECH, and we are thrilled to collaborate on this initiative to introduce e-prescribing and accelerate its adoption in Canada to benefit patients, hospitals, and pharmacies.”
In May, MEDITECH announced that Humber River Health in Toronto, ON, will be MEDITECH’s first hospital in Canada to implement PrescribeIT® within the Expanse EHR and is expected to go live with the technology this fall.
“The introduction of e-prescribing in Canada is transformative. This integration with DrFirst Healthcare Innovations will further our collaboration with Canada Health Infoway and PrescribeIT® and ultimately provides safer and more efficient healthcare delivery, as well as greater convenience for patients,” said Robert Molloy, MEDITECH Director, Canadian Market and Product Strategy.
“The partnership between MEDITECH and DrFirst marks a significant step forward in PrescribeIT’s mission to transform how prescriptions are sent and received,” said Jamie Bruce, EVP, PrescribeIT®. “This collaboration will enhance patient care, streamline workflows, and empower healthcare professionals with a seamless and secure prescribing experience.”
DrFirst Healthcare Innovations is a long-time partner of MEDITECH in hospitals throughout the U.S. for e-prescribing and other medication management solutions, including augmented intelligence to increase productivity and streamline the collection of patients’ medication history to better inform prescribing decisions.
