Springfield Clinic to Move to athenahealth’s Cloud-Based EHR
Illinois’ second-largest private, multispecialty medical group will leverage athenaOne® to simplify the practice of care and improve patient experience and outcomes
WATERTOWN, Mass. (August 2, 2023) – athenahealth, Inc., a leading provider of network-enabled software and services for medical groups and health systems nationwide, today announced that Springfield Clinic, a community-based organization delivering care through more than 675 providers in over 80 medical specialties and subspecialties, is implementing athenaOne in all locations across the 20 counties it serves in Illinois. The clinic is moving to athenaOne – athenahealth’s suite of integrated, cloud-based electronic health record (EHR), medical billing and patient engagement tools – to help its providers and staff seamlessly care for patients while using a modern and intuitive solution.
“We sought an EHR platform that wasn’t only more physician friendly, but also more patient friendly, and we have found that in athenaOne,” said Ray Williams, chief executive officer of Springfield Clinic. “The athenaOne portal represents a significant upgrade, and athenahealth’s overall focus on a more modern and convenient patient journey aligns with our philosophy at Springfield Clinic, where a high-quality patient experience is the highest priority.”
Springfield Clinic needed technology that would allow it to take ongoing steps to improve provider, staff, and patient experiences. Springfield Clinic needed a solution that was not only interoperable but that would integrate actionable patient data from multiple community health systems within the physician’s native workflow to help them make treatment decisions during appointments. After extensive review by a committee of physicians and IT decision makers, Springfield Clinic selected athenaOne to alleviate workflow challenges for providers and staff, deliver a holistic view of patients in the moment of care, and enable the clinic to grow and expand functionality to meet its evolving needs.
“With our physicians leading the selection process, it quickly became apparent that athenaOne would make their lives much easier,” commented Rolando Cabral, chief information and transformation officer of Springfield Clinic. “We could all see athenahealth puts a lot of attention into the user experience, making it intuitive, consistent, and easy to use. We are really impressed that the interface was designed to work like our physicians work, and that our physicians will have meaningful patient data available from other care settings, applications, and IT systems when they need it most.”
“We are proud to support Springfield Clinic’s efforts to improve provider, staff, and patient satisfaction; maintain its independence; and help its team seamlessly care for patients,” said Bob Segert, chairman and chief executive officer of athenahealth. “With athenaOne, Springfield Clinic is well positioned to continue strengthening its position in the market.”

symplr’s Provider Data Management SaaS Offering Wins 7th Annual MedTech Breakthrough Award and Stevie Award
Prestigious International Annual Awards Programs Recognize Standout Digital Health & Medical Technology Software and Companies
HOUSTON, TX – MAY 3, 2023 – symplr®, the leader in enterprise healthcare operations software, announced that it was selected as the winner of the “Best Provider Data Management Platform” award in the 7th annual awards program conducted by MedTech Breakthrough, an independent market intelligence organization that recognizes the top companies, technologies, and products in the global health and medical technology market. Additionally, symplr Directory was honored as a Bronze Stevie Winner in the “Achievement in Product Innovation” category by the Stevie® Awards, a premier international business awards program. This marks symplr’s sixth healthcare industry leadership award this year.
symplr Directory enables health systems to manage tens of thousands of credentialed, referring, and affiliated providers’ data, ensuring that patient experience, revenue cycle, referral management, and network management operations run smoothly. To dramatically reduce provider credentialing cycle time, symplr now offers the first end-to-end provider data management software platform connecting a cloud-based provider credentialing system to symplr Directory, continuously enriching provider profiles with up-to-date credential, privilege, and location information.
“We are honored that our leadership in provider data management technology has been recognized through these two prestigious industry awards,” said BJ Schaknowski, CEO of symplr. “Every mission-critical operation in a health system requires accurate, continuously curated provider data. symplr’s holistic approach to provider data management streamlines and optimizes provider life cycle management from recruiting, credentialing, and privileging to scheduling, physician peer review, and performance dashboards— redirecting precious time from operations back to patient care.”
symplr Directory offers hospitals, health systems, and health plans a pathway to consolidate and share accurate provider data. Credentialing and privileging data is enhanced with providers’ locations, health plans, network participation, clinical taxonomy, appointment availability, and much more. symplr’s powerful software tool, Find a Doctor, lets patients find and book a convenient appointment with the best-fit provider in their network within seconds. symplr also ensures accurate provider data, so primary care providers and referral teams alike know which specialists are in-network. Additionally, symplr integrates provider data with a quality system to enable the monitoring, benchmarking, and reporting of provider performance.
The mission of the MedTech Breakthrough Awards is to honor excellence and recognize innovation, hard work, and success in a range of health and medical technology categories. This year’s program attracted more than 4,000 nominations from over 17 different countries throughout the world. The Stevie Awards honor and generate public recognition of the achievements and positive contributions of organizations and working professionals worldwide. More than 3,700 nominations from organizations of all sizes and in virtually every industry were submitted this year for consideration.
“A fast and accurate provider credentialing-privileging-enrollment-promotion process is needed for providers, patients, and health systems. Health systems are pressed to ensure that patients have a better digital healthcare experience, comparable to digital retail shopping,” said James Johnson, managing director at MedTech Breakthrough. “symplr is driving wholesale change today to deliver on this need, helping provider organizations consolidate their systems into one platform. Their new integrations make sure that provider data flows into a single source of provider truth to support all mission-critical operations and improve the overall operational performance of a provider organization.
