Montage Health Selects Xealth to Drive Digital Health Strategy
MONTEREY, Calif., and SEATTLE – July 11, 2023 – Xealth, the leader in enabling digital health at scale, today announced that Montage Health, a nonprofit family of organizations across Monterey County, Calif., is using Xealth’s digital health platform system-wide to power its digital strategy across several clinical lines. Centralizing tools, leveraging automation, and integration into care team workflows will enable faster and easier distribution of mobile apps, patient education, and additional resources to promote greater wellbeing.
Digital health programs, including remote patient monitoring (RPM), help fill a necessary role in extending care options for patients, and making them simple to find and bring into treatment plans is essential for success. Centralizing these resources and integrating with Montage Health’s electronic health record (EHR) system, Xealth supports care teams by automating distribution to help elevate the patient care experience. Hospitals and providers also gain insight into how each tool is performing with patients.
“Montage Health works across our communities to keep people healthy and connected,” said Jill Reyes Tiongco, MD, FAMIA, chief medical information officer at Montage Health. “We currently have several digital programs that support our patients between visits. Xealth brings them all together across our system, increasing efficiencies by our clinical staff and enhancing the patient experience.”
Beginning with digital health programs that support orthopedics, behavioral health, patient education and consumer wellness, Montage Health care teams will benefit from the centralized, digital approach, that will reduce the time-consuming task of finding the right information for patients at the right time and improve its ability to measure program impact.
“Patients have been seeking more flexibility and health systems are under pressure to expand care teams without placing additional burdens on clinical staff,” said Mike McSherry, CEO and co-founder of Xealth. “Digital health offers this simplicity without requiring significant resources. Xealth helps reduce steps for the provider, freeing them to do what they do best – care for their patients. We are thrilled to work with Montage Health, making it easier to leverage digital resources, deepening the connection between patients and care teams.”
Xealth makes it easier for medical providers to order and monitor digital health solutions by integrating custom content management systems, third-party education and digital health vendors with the customer’s EHR system and patient portal.

The Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin health network Leverages Digital Health to Engage High Risk Employees in Maintaining a Healthy Weight
Integrating the Omada Health virtual care program into the health system’s digital health platform via Xealth streamlines communications and improves engagement
MILWAUKEE, WI and SEATTLE, WA (September 14, 2023) —Xealth, the leader in enabling digital health at scale, today announced that The Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin health network is leveraging its digital health platform to engage select employees into the Omada Health virtual care program.
A national epidemic, obesity is a significant factor that increases a person’s chance of developing chronic conditions, including type 2 diabetes. Reducing body mass index (BMI) by even less than three percent lowers a person’s risk of developing a chronic condition by 35 percent. To assist its employees who have one or more health factors putting them at risk for type 2 diabetes, The Froedtert & MCW health network is offering them a CDC-recognized virtual-first diabetes prevention program from Omada Health.
“Our clinicians and staff dedicate themselves to making sure our patients have the resources they need to live their healthiest lives. It is important that, as a health system, we do the same for each member of our team,” said Bradley Crotty, MD, MPH Chief Medical Officer of Inception Health, the innovation arm of the Froedtert & MCW health network; and Associate Professor of Medicine, MCW. “Early results indicate high engagement and enhanced outcomes for people using the Omada program and adding it to our digital health platform amplifies these outcomes, improving enrollment and engagement so that our members benefit from these individualized programs.”
By integrating the virtual care program into the clinical record, eligible patients are easily identified. Xealth facilitates communication outreach, which comes from The Froedtert & MCW health network, and offers deeper insight into program enrollment and engagement. The health network has been using the Xealth digital health platform, integrated into its EHR system, since early 2018. Omada is the 10th digital health app that the health system has added to this platform, which covers a variety of clinical areas, including mental health, maternity, diabetes and others.
“Providing a virtual-first care environment, Omada offers a clinically-rigorous approach to weight management and diabetes prevention that supports patients in the time between doctors’ visits. The behavior change program combines relationship building, data, and technology to deliver scalable and outcomes-driven care,” said Omada Health Chief Medical Officer Carolyn Jasik, MD. “Integrating our program with the Xealth platform adds insights into enrollment and activation that, coupled with our ongoing analytics, delivers a more complete view to employers and healthcare providers to optimize program results.”
To date, 1,200 The Froedtert & MCW health network employees have received invitations into the program, with about 25% of them joining. Collectively, they have lost about 1,300 pounds and are engaging with the program an average of 29.2 times per week.
“Digital programs and resources are an integral part of comprehensive care, especially for addressing complex conditions,” said Mike McSherry, CEO and co-founder of Xealth. “By bringing its digital health programs, including Omada, onto Xealth’s connected platform, The Froedtert & MCW health network is extending care teams and looking out for the health of the very people dedicated to helping its patients.”
Xealth is the driving force behind digital health programs at many of the nation’s largest health systems, bringing digital health vendors, programs, therapeutics and tools into clinical and patient workflow. When combined with the company’s custom data and analytics, health systems can track, analyze and evaluate everything through their digital health integration platform.

Fuzion by DrFirst Brings Radical Efficiency to Clinical Workflows and Safeguards Patients from Preventable Errors
Powered by Clinical-Grade AI, Health Tech Platform Offers Flexible Options and Insights to Increase Utilization and Value
ROCKVILLE, MD (October 5, 2023) — As hospitals and health systems face increasingly intense financial and staffing challenges, health tech pioneer DrFirst announced an enterprise-wide software platform that uses clinical-grade AI to streamline clinical workflows such as medication reconciliation and other elements of medication management.
Fuzion by DrFirst brings together a broad set of capabilities that transforms medication-related processes, relieving staff burden and boosting patient safety and outcomes. With the flexibility to use all or parts of the platform within native Epic electronic health record (EHR) workflows, the clinical-grade AI acts as a co-pilot, working in collaboration with staff to improve the quality of clinical data and deliver game-changing efficiency to overworked clinicians.
Fuzion by DrFirst radically improves efficiency in three unique ways:
- Eliminating the need for manual data entry and its drag on staff productivity and quality of care by optimizing inbound clinical data at the point of care
- Igniting adherence by delivering prescription price transparency, providing medication fill data for high-risk populations, and sending patients automated prescription reminders with educational and financial resources
- Supercharging value with continuous analytics on medication history workflows and highlighting areas for improvement
Eliminating Data Gaps and Manual Entry
Clinical-grade AI fills data gaps, giving clinicians easy access to accurate and complete patient information and reducing the risk of adverse drug events and readmissions.“We were driven to partner with DrFirst because of their ability to optimize our clinical data and streamline time-consuming healthcare workflows,” said Stacey Johnston, MD, MHA, CHCIO, VP, Chief Application Officer & Epic Program Executive of Baptist Health. “As part of our migration from legacy EHRs to Epic, DrFirst solutions converted more than 9 million sigs [medication instructions] without clinician intervention. A subset of these conversions had no sig provided in third-party data, and the sig was inferred by the AI technology. By avoiding manual conversion of this data, we saved critical time (estimated at more than 19,000 hours) for our clinicians and reduced the likelihood of transcription errors.”
Baptist Health also integrated other elements of Fuzion that drive medication adherence, including real-time benefit check and patient engagement tools. “We can now provide clinically appropriate and affordable medication options before the patient leaves the exam room and deliver automated messages that offer relevant educational information with financial savings, plus reminders to pick up their prescriptions,” said Dr. Johnston.
Igniting Population Health Initiatives
Population health initiatives are crucial for health systems, and Fuzion by DrFirst delivers clinically relevant information that makes it easy for healthcare providers to identify patients who may need help to stay on track with their medication therapy. Early intervention with these patients dramatically reduces overall use of healthcare resources and prevents the negative outcomes and costly penalties associated with hospital readmissions. One academic medical center used the population health management capability within the platform to identify and counsel populations of patients who weren’t filling their prescriptions for congestive heart failure, resulting in a 20% improvement in prescription first-fill rates.“Major advances like this are key to value-based care initiatives—and impossible without optimized clinical data and the workflows to make that information readily accessible,” said G. Cameron Deemer, CEO of DrFirst. “Many health systems are grappling with rising costs, staffing shortages and burnout, and sicker patients. Accurate and timely patient data is crucial to managing care for high-risk patients so they have better health outcomes and stay out of the hospital.”
Supercharging Value with Continuous Insights
A dashboard provides continuous insights that include a Value Realization Score, based on utilization that reflects keystrokes saved, fewer calls to primary care providers and local pharmacies to confirm medication history, and opportunities to reduce adverse drug events that contribute to readmissions. Health systems are using the dashboard to monitor and continually improve medication reconciliation workflows, including for high-risk patients and those admitted via the Emergency Department. One Northern California academic medical center increased by 42% the number of times staff used the automated feature to import medication history rather than entering the information manually. The same health system saw a 6% increase in staff consulting medication history for high-risk inpatients.
In April 2023, the clinical-grade AI that powers Fuzion by DrFirst won Gold in the “Efficiency Through AI” category of the prestigious Edison Awards.

care.ai Builds Advanced Solutions for Nurses with Google Cloud’s Generative AI and Data Analytics on Its Smart Care Facility Platform
Platform will ease administrative burdens and improve healthcare facility management and patient care
LAS VEGAS, NV (October 9, 2023) — care.ai today announced it is building Google Cloud’s generative AI and data analytics tools into its Smart Care Facility Platform to improve healthcare facility management and patient care, and move toward its vision for predictive, smart care facilities.
care.ai’s platform will help solve an acute and growing problem: there aren’t enough clinicians to deliver healthcare, and yet the amount of paperwork is growing. Administrative costs in 2022 alone increased by $18 billion, a 30% increase in just one year, to reach $60 billion annually (CAQH). Additionally, within the next five years, the U.S. faces a projected shortage of more than 3.2 million front-line healthcare workers such as medical assistants, home health aides, and nursing assistants, according to a Mercer report.
care.ai platform will ease administrative burdens and improve patient care with Google Cloud’s generative AI.
By leveraging Google Cloud’s gen AI tools, including Vertex AI, and analytics and business intelligence products BigQuery and Looker, care.ai’s Smart Care Facility Platform aims to help reduce administrative burdens, mitigate staffing shortages, and free up clinicians to spend more time with patients in 1,500 acute and post-acute facilities where care.ai’s platform is already deployed.
As the technology is further deployed and integrated, acute and post-acute facilities will become continuously learning environments that leverage care.ai’s always-aware Ambient Intelligent Sensors to seamlessly provide clinical and operational teams with real-time ambient data, such as patient condition, room status, protocol and process adherence that keeps care teams better informed and empowered to meet patient needs. The Smart Care Facility Platform will also assist in creating discharge summaries, call summaries, recommend templates, and other content for nurses, admissions, and discharge staff. care.ai’s goal is to preemptively identify potential issues, enable real-time awareness, and improve predictive process adherence and resource allocation for more timely responses. This will enhance patient safety and experiences while autonomously optimizing workflows and processes.
“This collaboration brings us closer to our vision of predictive smart care facilities, as opposed to the current reactive care model, which relies on latent, manual, sometimes inaccurate data entry,” said Chakri Toleti, CEO of care.ai. “Our vision is to enable the era of the smart hospital by making gen AI and ambient intelligence powerful assistive technologies, empowering clinicians, making healthcare safer, smarter, and more efficient.”
“We’re living in an era of profound change in health care,” said Roberta Schwartz, Ph.D., chief innovation officer, Houston Methodist. “Ambient intelligent virtual nursing has empowered us to reduce the administrative burden on our nursing staff, and increase their capacity to provide high-quality, personalized care to our patients. The intuitive nature of these solutions also ensures seamless integration into our health care operations, revolutionizing how we provide care, enhancing the safety and overall patient experience across our health system.”
“Through real-time awareness of the care environment and virtualizing workflows, the virtual care platform reduces the workload on bed-side nurses,” said Dr. Neal Patel, chief informatics officer, Vanderbilt University Medical Center. “This allows nurses to dedicate more time and focus on complex patient care. We’re also benefiting from 24/7 monitoring capabilities that can enhance patient safety and a more personalized, patient-centric service. This is truly the future of healthcare.”
care.ai is also leveraging Google Cloud’s Vertex AI Search, which combines information retrieval, state-of-the-art natural language processing, and the latest in large language processing to understand user intent and return the most relevant results for Smart Care Teams.
“care.ai is working to help its customers deliver a more intuitive, efficient, and human care environment,” said Aashima Gupta, global director of Healthcare Strategy and Solutions for Google Cloud. “By assisting nurses with relevant information, they are not just improving patient care; they are helping reimagine what’s possible in a world with limited healthcare resources. This is such a meaningful change.”
care.ai and Google Cloud are showcasing the Smart Care Facility Platform and Always Aware Ambient Sensors with Google Cloud’s gen AI tools at HLTH23. Visit care.ai at Booth 2435 and Google Cloud at Booth 5626.

2023 symplr Compass Survey of Health Systems Highlights Urgent Need to Align CIO & Clinician Priorities to Improve Healthcare Operations & Reduce Burnout
Survey reveals potential for better patient care and significant time savings for clinicians with streamlined enterprise software
HOUSTON, Oct. 2, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — symplr®, a leader in enterprise healthcare operations software, has announced the findings of its second annual symplr Compass Survey. The research captured sentiments from CIOs/IT leaders, all members of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME), and clinicians at top U.S. health systems assessing decision-maker’s views of the impact of technology on clinicians and patient care. The results are published in the 2023 symplr Compass Report, “From Imminent to Urgent: Aligning Clinicians & IT is Critical to Streamlining Healthcare Operations.”
The data reveals critical challenges and opportunities facing leaders at top healthcare organizations. The top challenge reported is working with disparate IT systems, which 80% of respondents say complicates their job, while 84% agree that clinicians could redirect substantial time back to patient care by bringing together healthcare operations software on a single platform.
Other key survey findings include:
- Clinician burnout/workforce challenges (41%) overtook financial pressures (39%) as the top threat organizations face in 2024
- 55% of organizations rely on 50+ point solutions to run healthcare operations
- Clinicians perceive challenges such as nurse retention, ensuring the physical/emotional well-being of nurses, optimizing technology efficiency, and streamlining workflows as more pressing concerns when compared to their counterparts in CIO/IT
- Clinicians (67%) were more likely than IT/CIOs (48%) to agree that their organization has a difficult user experience for individuals working across healthcare operations software. This is defined as the administrative, non-clinical tasks that help run a hospital/health system.
“The 2023 symplr Compass Survey data indicates a huge opportunity to consolidate healthcare operations solutions and give clinicians time back for patient care, which could greatly reduce burnout and make technology easier to manage,” said BJ Schaknowski, Chief Executive Officer at symplr. ”To do so, health systems must align the right stakeholders and partners to remove barriers between IT and clinicians to stop attrition of healthcare talent.”
The 210 total survey respondents were comprised of members of CHIME, the professional organization dedicated to serving CIOs, CMIOs, CNIOs, chief digital officers, and other senior healthcare IT leaders.
symplr’s Compass Survey findings align with data from industry experts. McKinsey & Company identified a potential 10-20% time savings for nurses through digital automation addressing workforce gaps. The 2023 KLAS Healthcare Operations Report revealed over 90% of healthcare workers prioritize technology consolidation for operational efficiency. And Bain & Company’s 2023 Healthcare Provider IT Report highlighted sustained HIT spending and 75% respondents anticipate increased software and technology investments in the coming year.
