Coming Up Soon: Spring Forum, Leadership Academies and Advocacy Summit

Florida. Maryland. Washington, D.C. Those are some of the places you will be able to visit this winter and spring to attend CHIME’s growing list of educational events.
The CHIME HIMSS Spring Forum will be in Orlando, Fla., this year. We have four dynamic speakers who will present keynote addresses on Feb. 11 at this national conference. Each speaker will offer valuable knowledge and inspiring messages from their personal stories and experiences. They will provide a connected path for attendees to travel that will move from a global view of the state of healthcare to new research on the underlying determinants of health and care. From there, when you attend, our speakers will introduce new and developing technologies that will change how we advance health IT in 2019 and beyond. And as we complete our path of learning, we will deepen our understanding and commitment to change with a renewed motivation for personal leadership in the year to come.
The speakers who will lead us on our journey at the forum start with an opening keynote from Vivek H. Murthy, MD, who served as the 19th surgeon general of the United States from December 2014 to April 2017. As surgeon general, he made innovation and improving health his top priorities. He will talk about the state of healthcare today, setting the foundation for the speakers who follow.
Second is Claire Pomeroy, MD, MBA, an expert in infectious diseases and a long-time advocate for patients. Now the president and CEO of the Lasker Foundation, she has used her experiences as a child in foster care to inform her approach to improving health and care. Her presentation will focus on the underlying social determinants of health.
Our mid-afternoon keynote will venture into the world of artificial intelligence and robotics with a keynote from one of the world’s leading authorities on advanced technologies. Neil Jacobstein, chair of the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Track at Singularity University and a distinguished visiting scholar at Stanford University Media X Program, will explore how these technologies are transforming healthcare and how healthcare IT executives can apply them in their hospitals and health systems.
The educational part of the forum will close with Kristina and Kate Sheridan, a mother-daughter duo who will share their professional and personal journey in our healthcare system. Kristina Sheridan combines her experience as a caregiver of chronic pediatric patients and systems engineering to help the healthcare and IT communities develop and provide tools to manage the care of complex patients. Kate Sheridan is a patient empowerment advocate who survived complex chronic conditions and is now pursuing a career in healthcare.

On March 6 and 7, we will bring a record-breaking number of CHIME faculty to Baltimore, Md., to present a first ever triple-play of leadership education. On March 6, we hill hold a CMIO/CHIO Leadership Academy as well as Cybersecurity Academy, where a combined 10 faculty members will provide new education and content to advance attendees’ capabilities and careers. And on March 7, we will hold a special Leadership Academy with six faculty members who will provide an accelerated dose of content from our popular CIO Boot Camp. CHIME also will hold our second annual Advocacy Summit on June 26-28 in Washington, D.C. We are assembling another stellar lineup of leading congressional and federal policy makers along with members from CHIME and our associations who help put policy into practice. CHIME Board member and NHS CIO Will Smart will give an international perspective on privacy and security in a keynote address. Our first Advocacy Summit received rave reviews from attendees.
