Hospital for Special Care Achieves Industry Recognition for Patient Centered Specialty Care
Allscripts Sunrise(TM) ambulatory care enables hospital to implement collaborative care process
CHICAGO, IL – May 21, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Autism Center at Hospital for Special Care (HSC), an Allscripts client in New Britain, CT, USA, is the first organization to receive the Patient Centered Specialty Practice (PCSP) recognition for Autism from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). This recognition highlights specialty practices that successfully coordinate patient care and communicate with their primary care colleagues, other specialists and patients.
HSC extended their Sunrise platform by deploying Allscripts SunriseTM Ambulatory Care to create an integrated electronic health record (EHR) process to meet PCSP criteria. The organization met or exceeded national standards for:
- Communicating with primary care clinicians to exchange key information and establish coordinated care plans
- Providing timely access to care and clinical advice based on patient need
- Using a systematic approach to track referrals and coordinate care
- Measuring and improving performance over time
“The Autism Center at Hospital for Special Care is committed to providing high quality patient-centered care, with a focus on continuous quality improvements,” said Lynn Ricci, senior vice president and chief operating officer, Hospital for Special Care. “By using the Allscripts Sunrise solution, our care providers can assemble and access the patient data necessary to facilitate collaborative care. We are already seeing positive outcomes for our patients.”
For example, HSC had an 8-year-old male patient diagnosed with an Autism spectrum disorder. The primary care physician determined that the patient’s academic program struggled to meet his needs and made a referral to a psychologist. Both care providers collaborated on a comprehensive care and treatment plan by using the shared EHR. As other specialists were added to the patient’s treatment plan, those care providers were also able to effectively contribute to the care plan by using the EHR.
Sunrise Ambulatory Care from Allscripts is a complete solution for outpatient care that helps enable ambulatory practices to operate more efficiently through every stage of care and administration. As patients move from one environment to another, Sunrise Ambulatory Care tracks the vital processes related to the current orders, medications, results and documents to help ensure safety at every stage and handoff.
“The Information Technology team at HSC played a pivotal role in the success of the Patient-Centered Specialty Practice (PCSP),” said Stanislaw Jankowski, vice president and chief information officer, Hospital for Special Care. “With Allscripts collaboration and Autism leaders, we optimized the use of Allscripts EHR for data capture and ensured all the required PCSP criteria were met.”
“Hospital for Special Care is a leader in using Sunrise Ambulatory Care to deliver strong results for its patients,” said Allscripts Senior Vice President, Client Organization John Sage. “This impressive national recognition required a rigorous review of its capabilities, and it is great to see this organization receive the kudos it deserves for patient-centered care.”
