CI2O Innovation Summit: A First-Person Account and Photos
10.03.19
By Yuri Campbell, Healthcare IT Strategist, United States Army Medical Center of Excellence
I attended a thought-provoking event hosted by CHIME in September that was a call to action. Omar Lateef, DO, CEO of Rush Medical Center, spoke about driving change from the top of the healthcare system. He emphasized gaining a clear understanding of the pain points felt by users and forming partnerships to make change that is meaningful.
Vijay Govindarajan presented a simple yet powerful Three Box Solution. He spoke about linear and non-linear shifts, and the careful balance that must be maintained in optimizing for the present, selectively disregarding old models from the past, and preparing for the future. VG also presented the best template for a one-page strategy architecture that I’ve ever seen.
Emily Melton outlined what venture capitalists look for when investing in digital health innovations. I also got to hear from Scott Powder, chief strategy officer for Advocate Aurora Health, on how his organization used a dual transformation model to prepare for disruption, while simultaneously optimizing core functions. He emphasized that innovation is about experimentation; fail fast to learn fast.
Hats off to the moderators: Jonathan Fritz, CFCHE, Russ Branzell, CHCIO, Tim Stettheimer, CHCIO, and Kali Durgampudi, CFCHE, for a great event.
Editor’s note: A photo gallery chronicling the Sept. 19-20 event is available here.
