Foundation Firm Members Can Gain Policy Insights at D.C. Summit

Education is a pillar of CHIME, and we have never lost sight of our mission to help members learn and grow in their careers. In recent years, we added educational events specifically for Foundation firm members to enrich them professionally as well. This year we are introducing a new program that brings everyone together to create positive change in healthcare through IT – with no limits on the number of industry representatives who can attend.
CHIME is launching a new initiative, the CHIME Advocacy Summit, on Oct. 3-5 in Washington, D.C. The summit is open to CHIME members, members of CHIME’s affiliated associations, CHIME Foundation firm representatives and others. The program will be illuminating for anyone who wants the most up-to-date information on federal policy and its impact on providers, health systems and the businesses that serve them. As chair of CHIME’s Public Policy Steering Committee as well as your board chair, I can’t emphasize enough how important it is that we stay in front of these issues and make our voices heard in Washington.
The CHIME Advocacy Summit coincides with the kickoff of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month and comes right before National Healthcare IT Week. The summit will highlight four of CHIME’s top policy priority topics for 2018: cybersecurity, interoperability, telehealth and opioid-related issues. We are still locking in the details, but we expect to feature high-profile leaders from the federal government and agencies along with thought leaders from CHIME, the Association for Executives in Healthcare Information Security (AEHIS), the Association for Executives in Healthcare Information Technology (AEHIT) and the Association for Executives in Healthcare Information Applications (AEHIA).
We are planning several networking opportunities to give attendees a chance to share ideas and build relationships. We have reserved a block of hotel rooms at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill, which is also the site for the summit. You can register here. The location is only five miles from Reagan Airport for those flying in and three blocks from Union Station for train travelers and commuters. And it is a short walk to the U.S. Capitol and the Senate Office Buildings. The summit is tentatively scheduled to adjourn before 11 a.m. on Oct. 5, giving attendees time to visit Capitol Hill if they want.
This is not just a public policy conference, though. This is an event that will educate and energize all who attend to take the lead – which is why we gave it the tagline “Transforming HIT through Policy Leadership.”
