Healthcare security is often framed in terms of vulnerabilities and the potential consequences of a breach. Yet the most effective security leaders talk less about risk and more about risk management, and in a business context the C-suite and board can understand. But how to make that leap?
This fall, CHIME and AEHIS will offer a boot camp dedicated to chief information security officers who aspire to be at the pinnacle of their profession. As two of the Healthcare CISO Boot Camp faculty members, we are honored to be part of a program that is designed to elevate the role of security executives and help participants grow as leaders. The new CISO boot camp is modeled after the CHIME Healthcare CIO Boot Camp™ but will focus on security leadership. We will be joined by many prominent healthcare security executives who will share insights and lessons learned.
Security is playing an increasingly critical role in healthcare as we transition to a digital healthcare system. Many security programs have grown from IT departments and over the years they have developed strong technical expertise. But without the leadership skills and strategies for navigating the C-suite, their executive teams may struggle to successfully drive change in their organizations. The Healthcare CISO Boot Camp addresses that challenge.
For instance, team building and networking for CISOs will include identifying, recruiting and retaining talent and also identifying and partnering with leaders in your organization to help your team be most effective. The faculty will discuss how to approach risk management from a business perspective that aligns with your C-suite and board. Like the CIO boot camp, we will offer case studies, exercises, discussions and networking but with an emphasis on security.
We expect everyone who attends – including us – to take back at least one idea or strategy that can be implemented immediately into their healthcare organization’s security program. Participants can expect to walk away with lifelong friends and mentors plus a network to rely on throughout their careers.
The Healthcare CISO Boot Camp will be Nov. 6-9 in Phoenix, immediately following the AEHIS Fall Summit and the CHIME Fall CIO Forum, which will be held simultaneously in Phoenix. Members of CHIME, AEHIS, AEHIA and AEHIT as well as their direct reports are eligible to attend. Scholarships are available with an application deadline of Aug. 16.
