David Finn joins CHIME to Lead Professional Associations for Applications, Cybersecurity and Technology
ANN ARBOR, MI, Oct. 21, 2021 – The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) has added a prominent executive to its leadership team. David Finn has joined the organization as Vice President to lead the expansion of CHIME’s three professional associations: the Association for Executives in Healthcare Information Applications (AEHIA), Association for Executives in Healthcare Information Technology (AEHIT), and the Association for Executives in Healthcare Information Security (AEHIS).
“We are thrilled to have David Finn join our amazing CHIME team. His outstanding record of achievement in numerous fields vital to digital healthcare has earned him tremendous respect across the industry,” said Russell Branzell, President and CEO of CHIME. “David is equipped with expert knowledge of information technology, cybersecurity and management that will be invaluable as CHIME continues towards its vision of ‘Exceptional Leaders Transforming Health and Care.’”
Finn has over 30 years’ experience in planning, management and control of information technology and business processes. He has managed software development for a major university, several large-scale implementations, directed systems audits and led process redesign efforts in support of new systems and technology in various industries. He has specialized in using IT as an enabler of operating efficiency and deriving business value through the optimization and control of technology. Finn’s professional certifications include CISA, CISM, CRISC, and CDPSE.
Finn was most recently EVP, External Affairs, Information Systems & Security at CynergisTek, a firm that specializes in cybersecurity, privacy, and compliance in healthcare. While there, he created the firm’s annual report, a compilation based on hundreds of Risk Assessments that CynergisTek completed each year. Now in its fourth release, the report explores the security status (NIST CSF and HIPAA) of the healthcare sector. Finn had previously served as the Health Information Technology Officer for Symantec, the world’s largest security company. Prior to Symantec, David was the CIO of Texas Children’s Hospital, one of the largest pediatric IDN’s in the United States and an academic medical center.
With a record of service and a deep understanding of CHIME drawn from his time as both a CHIME member and a Foundation firm member, Finn brings a unique perspective to his new role.
“I’m looking forward to helping our members and Foundation members better understand issues, share needs directly and seek collaborative solutions,” Finn said. “I left the provider space because I felt I could have a beneficial impact beyond the bounds of one organization. At CHIME, we create a brain trust to facilitate industry-transforming discussions from many sides. We can accelerate learning, spark innovation, and bring people together to help our industry make the rapid progress we need in digital health.”
Finn has presented at numerous CHIME events, participated in multiple CHIME committees, and served as CHIME faculty. From 2014 -2017, he served on the CHIME Board of Trustees, during which time he worked closely with CHIME management to create and initiate AEHIS.
Finn has also made significant contributions to the industry through his appointment to the Health Care Industry Cybersecurity Task Force. This HHS task force was a requirement of the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act of 2015 (CISA). In 2017, David joined the 405(d) working group under the auspices of the Office of the CIO at HHS and continues this critical work today. He is also a prolific industry speaker and has published numerous articles and papers. Finn holds a BA degree from the University of North Dakota and an MA from Angelo State University.
