The Dedication to Giving Back
by Karen Marie Wilding, Vice President, Chief Value Officer, Nemours Children’s Health
Giving of oneself is service. We witness daily contributions to advance the well-being of others by many passionate members of CHIME. In healthcare information technology (HIT), our technical teams are focused on supporting clinical and business operations for all aspects of the care continuum. In this way, care delivery is advanced and seamless with information available to improve quality and outcomes.
Giving Back Through Committee and Advocacy Work
As a population health leader, technology and analytics are foundational to my work around value-based care at Nemours. CHIME has focused on serving not just the professional and partnership aspirations of health information technology leaders, but on advancing a commitment to service with multiple charitable and community-based opportunities. This lens has been a differentiator for me to remain committed to the organization and to give back through committee and other advocacy work.
A Commitment to Community
CHIME demonstrates its commitment to the communities wherever CHIME events are held. At every event, be it virtual or in person, CHIME provides membership with the opportunity to “give back” by doing a virtual run, packing backpacks for the homeless, or building bikes for children who would otherwise not have them, or making art for a children’s hospital. Over the years, CHIME has impacted thousands of lives by the generous volunteer service of its members.
Another impactful service opportunity that CHIME offers its members is to serve on the Opioid Task Force. This is a group of committed volunteer members that have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to fund ongoing and life-changing work through task force programs and outreach.
Let an Emphasis Remain on Acts of Service
Perhaps what makes this culture even more special is the emphasis on these acts of service to others that the CHIME membership values. As we look to the ever-changing healthcare industry, our patient and family needs, and our collective opportunities to embrace community and service, I am thrilled to be part of an organization that holds service in such high regard.
